Introduction:
Sync issues in OneDrive can disrupt your workflow by preventing files from uploading, downloading, or updating. This guide addresses common sync problems and provides steps to resolve them effectively.
Common Causes:
Outdated OneDrive app or operating system.
Internet connectivity issues.
File name restrictions (e.g., invalid characters or excessive length).
Conflicting files or permission
Steps to Resolve the Issue:
Step 1: Check Internet Connection
- Ensure your device is connected to a stable network.
- Test the connection by visiting a website or running a speed test.
- If the connection is unstable, restart your router or contact your ISP.
Step 2: Update the OneDrive App
- Open OneDrive settings and check for updates.
- On Windows, update via the Microsoft Store. On macOS, download the latest version from the OneDrive website
Step 3: Restart OneDrive
- Close OneDrive:
- On Windows: Right-click the OneDrive icon in the System Tray and select Close OneDrive.
- On macOS: Click the OneDrive icon in the menu bar and choose Quit OneDrive.
- Reopen the app and check if the sync issue is resolved.
Step 4: Check the File Name and Path
- Rename files or folders to remove invalid characters (e.g., *, ?, <, >) and ensure the path is shorter than 255 characters.
- Retry syncing after making these changes.
Step 5: Reset OneDrive
On Windows:
- Press Win + R and type
- Press Enter and restart OneDrive.
%localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
On macOS:
- Open Terminal and type
- Relaunch OneDrive.
~/Applications/OneDrive.app/Contents/Resources/ResetOneDriveApp.command
